"Command & Control" approach towards minimizing the costs and increasing effectiveness of Information Management may turn out to be very expensive and time-consuming (which defeats the original purpose of saving money).

How about applying the principles of market economy to Information Management? It starts with a simple acknowledgement: “Information is an Asset.” Then, you need to make just a few steps (most of them are typically part of Data Governance initiatives) in a certain sequence – and you are able not only to evaluate the cost of producing and managing your company’s information, but also to establish economic motivation for minimizing these costs and the time-to-market. A company that is market-driven internally has much better chances to succeed in competing on external market.

Igor Ikonnikov is passionate about new technologies and methodologies that can bring Information Systems at par with the requirements of the 21st century.
